creationists views for fossil dating?
how can a christian proo that the world is not a million years old by using fossils (or fossil dating) book refrences, sites andything would be great

- They can't. Sorry, but before you get all upset: if your teeth hurt, will you go to a dentist or to a car mechanic? If you want a valid answer from a specialist, why don't you go to a specialist as far as the age of the earth is concerned, but instead look for answers from specialist in a completely different and irrelevant field? Why don't you use the same common sense you use in your choice of a doctor in the choice of your education? Your education is just as important as your health.
- They will just say... God did it. psh.
- The world is not a million years old. It's roughly 4.5 Billion.
- Creationists don't use science. They use the bible.
- fossils ARE millions of years old, as proved by numerous dating methods. The only way a creationist concept of the young Earth would hold up is if they ignored the very existence of fossils (amongst many other strands of evidence)
- Oh, very easy. You can prove the earth is Billions of years old. Billions, with a B. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-age-of-earth.html Edit: Anybody who claims scientists use carbon dating to verify the age of the earth is either lying or mistaken.
- It's a frame of mind. A friend of mine who once was a christian explained that his congregation, at least, had a visiting minister who said that god created the world when they say that it did (roughly just 6,000 years ago) but that he created most existing structures - rocks, the ocean, certain species - with age so that they would appear to be much older. Obviously this is ludicrous and delusional but it's as close as you can come to saying that god created the world just 6,000 years ago but that our tests show it to be older than that because god wanted it that way. Logic was obviously not his major in college. Peace, Jenn
- Nobody has ever proven that the world is millions of years old. Carbon dating doesn't work when dating fossils, because of the halflife of Carbon-14. It is still a theory, but you will find many who are just as willing to admit that it's infallible, then laugh at theists who claim that God is infallible. People from both sides, theists and atheists, can be pretty hypocritical at times.
- I predict that you will only get dumb answers like Carbon dating is only good to 5000 years and complete ignorance of Potassium dating of rocks.
- They shouldn't attempt to discredit radiometric dating methods, superposition, and even carbon dating any more than they average fifth grader should attempt to discredit calculus-- though they'll go ahead and do it anyway, but only with carbon dating, since they seem anywhere of the existence of the those other methods.
- this is a good link for discussing RadioCarbon dating: http://www.creationscience.com/onlinebook/FAQ22.html#wp1303390 here is a good article on Radioactive Dating http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/am/v1/n1/radioactive-dating
- The iridium thrown up by the meteoric impact that brought down the firmament was radioactive(in an excited state) but has a short half life. When this energy was dissipated into the recently killed dino bones it "aged" the carbon 14 in the soon to be fossils. The Bible is accurate. It is the interpretation of data that is in conflict. Man and dino's DID live at the same time. Man had not spread over the whole world yet as this was relatively soon after creation. This is why you don't see dino and human fossils in the same beds. There are footprints in Texas of human and dino in the exact same strata.
- they think it's billions of years old now actually look at "clocks" too, like the amount of salts and sediment in the oceans does not support an earth billions of years old. http://www.icr.org/article/56/ Also about carbon dating of fossils: http://www.icr.org/article/117/ ("Carbon Dating Undercuts Evolution's Long Ages")
- Many of the fossils that were known as geologic time table are being found alive even today, many found in other time tables as well. all living fossils living today did not evolve or change. like the Tuatara, 135 million by evolutionist, crossopterygii, 70 million, living coelecanth 280 million years ago. a tree metasequoia 60 million , alive to day with no change and many more. even today there are no missing links ever found for convincing proof of Darwin's evolution.
- First of all you can't proof that the world is as old as they say it is, a million, billion...whatever. I believe what the bible tells me in Genesis about our world and how all were created. C-14 dating doesn't work because of the1/2 life...also the starting point is wrong. The earth has a magnetic field around it which helps protect us from harmful radiation from outer space. This magnetic field is decaying (getting weaker). The stronger the field is around the earth, the fewer the number of cosmic rays that are able to reach the atmosphere. This would result in a smaller production of C-14 in the atmosphere in the earth's past. Though complex, this history of the earth's magnetic field agrees with Barnes' basic Hypothesis, that the field has always freely decayed....The field has always been losing energy despite it's variations, so it can not be more then 10,000 years old. source: R Humphrey's, The mystery of earth's magnetic field, ICR Impact, Feb.1,1989 Check out The New Answer's Book by Ken Ham Do you ever wonder, if the dinosaurs are millions of years old, how come they aren't buried deeper in the earth??? Have a great day!
- >creationists views for fossil dating? You have to start by understanding that most creationists don't know there exists any kind of radioactive dating other than carbon-14 dating. If you look around, you'll see a lot of examples: Creationists talking about how scientists use circular logic to find the ages of sediment layers, creationists talking about how dinosaurs were all killed off in the Great Flood, etc. >how can a christian proo that the world is not a million years old by using fossils Well, anyone can prove that the world is MORE than a million years old using fossils. But no one, christian or otherwise, can prove that it is LESS than that, because in reality it is not and it's impossible to prove something that is false by definition.
- My views on fossil dating would be that it is based on an assumption and not scientific facts. All dating methods, carbon dating, radio isotope dating, ect, are all based on the uniformitarian principle. The uniformitarian principle is the assumption that the natural processes operating in the past are the same as those that can be observed operating in the present. Its methodological significance is frequently summarized in the statement: "The present is the key to the past." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniformitarianism_(science) That is how wikipedia defined uniformitarianism. Notice it said assumption. Websters dictionary defines uniformitarianism this way: a geological doctrine that processes acting in the same manner as at present and over long spans of time are sufficient to account for all current geological features and all past geological changes — compare catastrophism http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/uniformitarianism Websters uses the term doctrine, meaning what someone is taught. Scientist are taught that this is the way things are happen but there is scientific evidence to the contrary. Polonium Halos in the primordial granites of the earth show that the earth was formed quickly and not over a long slow progress that uniformitarianism teaches. Here is a video about the pulonium halos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9DtY-BXWnY The alternative to the uniformitarian principle is catastophism. It basically says that the things we observe in the earth are due to catastrophies in the past. Things would get rearranged rather quickly in catastrophies so a large time period is not needed for catastrophism. In 1994, the U.S. National Research Council stated: It is not known whether the relocation of materials on the surface of the Earth is dominated by the slower but continuous fluxes operating all the time or by the spectacular large fluxes that operate during short-lived cataclysmic events. (Davis, 18) http://geography.about.com/od/physicalgeography/a/uniformitarian.htm Now that we know that the dating methods used to date fossils lets see which of these methods would create fossils. We know that in order to get a fossil we have to have a few conditions. One is the fossil was once alive. Another was it was buried rapidly. Rapid burial of the millions of fossils we have tells me that there have been catastorphies in the past. It would be quite difficult for dinosaurs or any fossil to be buried quickly in a long slow process that uniformitarianism claims.
